Lyle and Sue Glenna, from Minnesota, have been living and working at a campground on the Guadalupe River this summer. While they managed to save themselves, Lyle and Sue even were able to help fellow citizens escape with a simple gesture.
As per CBS News, Wes Glenna, the couple’s son, said: “They were able to get into their truck and they were able to honk a warning out to a lot of people at the campground, which definitely helped some people make it out.”
The method was discussed further on a GoFundMe page, stating: “They were able to save many lives at the campground by having the presence of mind to honk their horn and wake people up, giving precious minutes for some to evacuate.”
In the less than 10 minutes, it took for Lyle and Sue to reach safety, their campground had been taken over by floodwaters.
“They lost friends, visitors, co-workers, definitely. They got to watch it happen and it was very tragic for them for sure,” Wes added.
“They lost everything. They have nothing except for their truck and the clothes on their backs.”
Lyle even had a heart attack in all the commotion, but thankfully Wes has explained he is going to make a full recovery.
The GoFundMe page set up to help the couple amid the flood has already raised over $20,000, which has already been put to good use.
An update on the fundraiser explained: “The funds have already been put to good use. Lyle was able to leave the hospital today. They wouldn’t release him without a new C-PAP machine.
“Thanks to your kindness, it was something they were able to do quickly and without stress. Again, thank you.
“We’re still not sure what insurance will cover, or when funds even will be available. The donations are going to help them begin to rebuild their lives immediately and completely.”
