The wreck, discovered 70 years later, revealed a vast debris field but no human remains—only shoes and personal items. Out of 337 recovered bodies, 119 were buried at sea, while 209 were taken to Halifax.
Experts believe the extreme ocean depth (over 12,000 feet), near-freezing temperatures, and marine life caused the bodies to decompose completely, leaving only non-biodegradable items behind.
