10 Dead, at Least 25 Injured Following Mass Shooting at School

Ten people are dead and more than 25 have been injured after what is being described as one of the deadliest mass shootings in Canada’s history.

Canadian police first received reports of a shooting shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10, in the small town of Tumbler Ridge, located in northeastern British Columbia, according to an emergency alert issued by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

Six people were found deceased inside Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, and one more died while being transported to the hospital, according to a second statement issued by the RCMP. Two additional people were found dead inside a residence in the community, police said in the statement.

“As part of the initial response to the active shooting, police entered the school to locate the threat. During the search, officers located multiple victims,” the statement read.

The shooter was later identified as one of the six deceased found inside the school, after police said they sustained a “self-inflicted injury,” per the statement.

The identities of the victims have not yet been made public by authorities.

In addition to the deceased, RCMP shared that two victims were airlifted to a hospital with “serious or life-threatening injuries,” while as many as 25 others are being “assessed and triaged at the local medical centre for non‑life‑threatening injuries.”

“Our hearts are in Tumbler Ridge tonight with the families of those who have lost loved ones,” British Columbia Premier David Eby wrote in a post to his X account. “Government will ensure every possible support for community members in the coming days, as we all try to come to terms with this unimaginable tragedy.”
