In 2021, Annunciation Catholic Church shared a public post on Facebook announcing her retirement.
The post praised her years of service, highlighting the kindness she showed to parishioners.
“On Sunday we honored Mary Grace Westman who is retiring from Annunciation. She has provided such wonderful hospitality, friendship and compassion to all who gathered for the last five years at Annunciation. You will be missed! Congratulations on your retirement,” the church’s message read.
Mary Grace worked in hospitality and support roles, where she became known for warmly welcoming parishioners and offering comfort to those who attended services.
Her retirement in 2021 was celebrated by the community as a recognition of her dedication and friendship.
Now, her name is being mentioned again under tragic circumstances, after her son allegedly carried out a mass shooting at the same church where she once served.
Police have not said whether Mary Grace had any knowledge of her son’s actions, and there is no suggestion she was connected to the crime.
