Police speak out after 8 people found dead in area within weeks as serial killer fears heighten

Authorities are investigating after a woman was found dead near a bike path in Springfield, Massachusetts on April 22, marking the eighth death in the region within weeks. The woman was discovered off Hall of Fame Avenue and pronounced dead at the scene.

Springfield Police said their Homicide Unit, along with the Hampden District Attorney’s office, is conducting an investigation pending autopsy results. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

The recent string of deaths—mostly involving women—occurred across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Human remains have been found in New Haven, Norwalk, Groton, Killingly, and other areas, sparking speculation about a possible serial killer.
