TV star arrested after buying child sexual abuse images

A high-profile arrest shook the American entertainment world this week. A person whom millions of viewers were used to seeing on screen as a successful entrepreneur and television personality suddenly found himself at the center of a criminal investigation. At first, details were kept under wraps, but with each passing day the case drew increasing public attention.

According to federal prosecutors, the investigation had been ongoing for several years. Law enforcement monitored the suspect’s online activity, including his participation in closed internet communities. Authorities later said there were grounds to believe he had made illegal purchases using electronic payment services. Federal agents working undercover played a key role in building the case.

The turning point came with a court-authorized operation: a search of a private residence where the suspect lived with his family. During the seizure of electronic devices, investigators discovered material that led to formal charges being filed. At his first court appearance, the defendant pleaded guilty and was ordered held without bail.

The individual in question is 50-year-old Robert Edwards — an entrepreneur who rose to prominence after appearing on Shark Tank and co-founding the popular brand Squatty Potty with his mother. His successful pitch on the show once helped secure major investment and propelled the company to a valuation of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Prosecutors allege the illegal activity took place between 2021 and 2025. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the suspect made purchases of unlawful material through his personal payment account. Some of the files were reportedly downloaded shortly before the search warrant was executed.

Following the public revelation of the charges, the company associated with the Squatty Potty brand released a statement emphasizing that it has had no ongoing ties to Edwards. Representatives said all business relationships ended in 2021 after certain assets were sold, and that he is neither an employee nor a stakeholder in the company.

The case is now moving through the court system. The charges relate to the receipt and possession of illegal material involving the exploitation of minors. The situation serves as a stark reminder of how a public image can sharply contrast with hidden realities — and how a long-built reputation can unravel almost overnight.
