President Donald Trump abruptly ended a White House press conference after a young girl collapsed during the swearing-in of TV personality Dr. Mehmet Oz as head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt quickly ended the briefing, asking reporters to leave. Trump left the podium, expressing concern: “I hope she’s OK.” Dr. Oz also rushed to assist. The White House later confirmed a “minor family member” fainted but was fine.
Trump praised Dr. Oz as one of the nation’s top medical professionals, highlighting his education at Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania, and his career as a heart surgeon and TV host. Though successful, The Dr. Oz Show faced criticism over controversial medical claims, such as calling green coffee extract a “magic weight loss cure.” Dr. Oz’s CMS appointment was confirmed by a 53-45 Senate vote.
