A beloved creative mind whose work left a lasting impression on generations of music lovers has passed away at the age of 66.
Family and friends recently confirmed the heartbreaking news in a touching tribute that described a person full of passion, energy, and artistic brilliance.
Known for his infectious smile and unwavering excitement for his craft, he was a visionary whose influence quietly echoed through some of the most legendary moments in rock history.
It is now being confirmed that Ioannis Vasilopoulos, the iconic album cover designer behind visuals for Bon Jovi, Deep Purple, and many more, died on April 7.
His family shared the sad announcement online, writing: “We announce with heavy hearts the passing of Ioannis, our beloved artist, husband, father, grandfather, and friend… He has left us for the great beyond.”
Born in Athens, Greece, and raised in the United States, Ioannis found his passion early — blending music and visual art into a career that would span decades and over 350 album covers.
His bold, imaginative style helped shape the visual identity of rock’s golden era. Beyond record covers, he worked with major labels like Sony, Universal, and Virgin, and even directed MTV videos.
From legendary names to local acts, Ioannis gave every project his full devotion. As one colleague wrote, “It didn’t matter if the commission was for The Allman Brothers or a new band down the street — he poured in 100%.”
