US bombs three nuclear sites in Iran including key Fordow bunker as Trump hails ‘very successful attack’ – LIVE UPDATES

The United States has bombed three nuclear sites in Iran in a risky move that could spark a wider regional conflict.

President Donald Trump tonight hailed the ‘very successful attack’ on the key Fordow bunker, Natanz and Esfahan.

He said American planes had dropped a ‘full payload of bombs’ on the sites and had now left Iranian airspace.

The decision to directly involve the US comes after more than a week of strikes by Israel on Iran that have moved to systematically eradicate the country’s air defenses.

It comes as Israel launched a fresh wave of strikes on Iran targeting drone storage sites and a weapons facility in the south of the country.

Israeli forces are ‘currently striking UAV storage facilities and a weapons facility in southwestern Iran in the area of Bandar Abbas’, a military statement read.

Meanwhile, a British man ‘with links to Iran operatives’ was arrested on suspicion of spying and terrorism offences in Cyprus on Saturday.

The man is reported to have kept the RAF Akrotiri base on the island under surveillance and is alleged to have links with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, local media has reported.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: ‘We are in contact with the authorities in Cyprus regarding the arrest of a British man.’

It comes as the US moved B-2 stealth bombers capable of carrying ‘bunker-busting’ bombs as President Trump continues to debate joining Israel in strikes on Iran.

Flight tracking data showed that as many as four aircraft took off from the Whiteman Air Force base in Missouri this morning.
