Iconic punk rock star dies in freak swimming accident aged 69

Sadness hangs heavy over the alternative music scene today. News of the sudden death of a legendary figure has shaken music communities around the world.

A man who held the microphone for decades with a rebellious grin has left this world just as unexpectedly as he entered the stage — loud and without warning.

His death came as a result of a tragic incident that, according to witnesses, appeared to be a freak accident.

He had been traveling, working on new material, when a moment of relaxation by the water turned into heartbreak. His family has asked for privacy as they try to process what happened.

The man in question is Jock McDonald, the 69-year-old frontman of the cult punk band The Bollock Brothers, who drowned on July 26, 2025, in Bundoran, Ireland. The news was first shared by the band’s drummer, Pat Pattyn, who wrote on social media: “His children asked me to share this terrible news… We’re all in shock.”

Fans from across the globe quickly flooded social media with tributes: “Another punk legend has left us,” one wrote on X. “His wit, his energy, his stage presence — truly one of a kind,” said another. Some shared memories of wild nights in London pubs, describing him as “an enthusiast and a true chancer.”

Before his untimely passing, McDonald had been working on a new album and single. His band, The Bollock Brothers, formed in 1979, released nine studio albums, four live records, and more than two dozen singles. They became known for their covers of Harley David (Son of a B**h)* and Faith Healer, as well as original tracks like Horror Movies, The Bunker, The Legend of the Snake, and The Slow Removal of the Left Ear of Vincent van Gogh.

His music will remain the voice of a generation — just like he was: loud, honest, wild, and unforgettable.
