But during production, tragedy struck. According to reports, a key member of the team suddenly collapsed at one of Venice’s most luxurious hotels. That person was Diego Borella, the assistant director of Emily in Paris. Only 47 years old, Borella collapsed on August 21 at the Hotel Danieli during a 10-day shoot in Venice. Known as a respected filmmaker from Venice with an impressive portfolio spanning Rome, London, and New York, Borella was also a beloved author of children’s stories and fairytales.
